Video: Francesco Cara, Nokia Design Strategist, We need a new metaphor for mobile interaction
Francesco Cara is speaking at the 2008 LIFT Conference about how Nokia has grown in terms of how their devices interact with the ecosystems around them. He notes that the iPhone takes a very desktop oriented approach in terms of how to operate the device and most curiously praises Palm for their user centric design efforts. Great way to kill 18 minutes this weekend:

New Nokia N95 8GB firmware with automatic screen rotation
Sure, you might already be rocking that cool RotateMe hack on your Nokia N95, but there's nothing like a little manufacturer-sanctioned love straight from Espoo to make you fall in love with screen-rotation on your N95. A new firmware (v20.0.016) is available for the Nokia N95 8GB (sorry folks, only the European N95-2 is supported for now) that comes with built-in support for the automatic screen rotation feature that the iPhone made so popular (sorry, I had to get that in there).
You can enable and disable the screen rotation feature at will, so there's basically no reason not to download and install this latest firmware for your Nokia N95 8GB. That is, unless you're rocking the N95 8GB NAM (N95-4), in which case, you'll need to wait it out a bit longer.
Grab the new firmware here.

Hop-On Disposable Cell Phones Surging In Europe
Hop-On recently announced that sales of their low end disposable cell phones are really catching on in Europe. The company just received an order for 150,000 low end GSM mobile phones that don’t have an LCD screen and operate on GSM networks.
“We are getting so many inquiries about the ‘disposable cell phone’ in Europe and the Middle East,
we will be hiring additional support to meet the market demands. We will not have any manufacturing issues in the low cost 900/1800 MHz phone utilizing both Texas Instruments chip sets and Infineon chip sets as they are proven technology.”
“This is our biggest opportunity to actually have Hop-on become a household name in the US and throughout Europe. No one sells a new 10 pounds Sterling GSM cell phone. This is a home run for Hop-on. While we are excited about the interest generated in the European Markets, we don’t currently have the resources to market our new disposable cell phone in the United States. This will come in time. We want to focus on the European and Middle East markets and then hire the
personnel necessary to do it right in America!” said Peter Michaels, President of Hop-on.

Power up on the go
They??ve been around for a while ?? and been promised for much longer ?? but Apocalypso at Symbian Freak has posted as to why the Nokia Extra Power DC-8 is a potential lifeline for those on the move.
With the ability to charge your device when you??re in, say, the desert, the North Pole or just plain old Oklahoma (somewhere with few power points), this little beauty will give you juice when you run out. Provided you charge it up before you leave the house ?? either with your standard charger or AA batteries ?? you can give your device that extra boost when your usage exhausts it.
Have you used one of these ???in the field??? Jump over and let Apoc know how it went.
