Google and E61

I noticed that just a while ago two Google Java clients were announced GooSync and GoTalkMobile? so I thought that a post written about both was necessary.

GooSync is a Java app that will sync your cellphone calendar with Google Cal, over the air. It does the same things as gcalsync (which I found out a while about, it works only for uploading though). These two are for Google Calendar syncing. GooSync looks like it will look better but gcalsync is simpler, however I think I’ll switch to GooSync.

Then there now is a Java app that’s only for Google Talk, not any of the other messenger communities. It’s called GoTalkMobile. You can get it here. E-Series wrote about it too.

Got more? Post? ’em in the comments!?

Just spotted some new E61 software which is a nice surprise… “Mobile Task is a native C++ Symbian application to start and stop any other application automatically. With this application, there are thousands of interesting use cases such as starting an application automatically at the morning, shutting down the radio after going to sleep or turning on/of the camera light as a bedside lamp.”

Best MessageStorer lets you easily and conveniently save your SMS, MMS, emails in a text or CSV file. Allows saving messages as text file. The text file contains detailed information about the message in easy-to-view representation. This file can be opened on your PC with Notepad; Allows storing messages as CSV (comma-separated values) file. CSV is a structured file containing messages and their properties in separate fields. Such file can be easily imported in Excel or any other software working with CSV format; Allows sorting messages by type, date/time, sender; A filter allows selecting messages by type (SMS, MMS or Email).

Best Birthday is a useful utility that helps you to organize and to view anniversaries in a handy way: monthly anniversaries view of contacts found in Calendar and Contacts applications, ability to perform fully customizable export of anniversaries from Contacts to Calendar and much more.
Best Birthday is fully integrated with built-in Calendar and Contacts applications. It collects all anniversaries found in Contacts and associates them with records in Calendar. You can easily customize order, in which you??d like birthdays to be shown. This can be done with the help of menu command “Sort by”.

Security Genius For S60 3rd

“Security Genius” application is a value-added service on Nokia S60 3.0 platform. It can protect a mobile user from losing his/her phone just in case the phone is lost. For example, if a user has lost his /her phone and someone has picked up the phone. If another SIM card has plugged into in the phone, then a customized message will be automatically sent out to the pre-defined mobile numbers at the boot-up of the phone. In this case, the user can get to know the person’s mobile number. For security reason, the application can ONLY be auto-started at the machine boot-up. Once the application is installed, a user cannot find it anywhere in the “My Own” or “Installed” folders. The main reason for this is that it prevents the phon- picker from un-installing the application and/or finding the existence of the application on the phone if the phone is lost. In order to enter the application, a user has to “dial” a password (which is defined by the application) plus a “#” character in the active idle screen. The default password is “123456″, which means, if a user wants to enter the application, the user needs to input the following character sequence in the active idle screen (like the way a user gets the IMEI number):123456# Once the user has entered the application, the user has the freedom to change the password to any other ones (which consists of numeric numbers from “0″ to “9″). Then length of the password should be no less than 6??? and the maximum length is 10.

Darkest Fear

The Darkest Fear series was recommended in a comment on this blog and the first one is brilliant. Easily one of the best games on my E61.

The game offers a unique atmosphere and completely new lightning effects like never seen on mobile. Finds

US_Tourist is new and works with the E61- “US_Tourist provides German / French / Italian / Spanish / Portuguese / English [UK] useful tourist translations from English [US] using your cell phone’s screen.?  No air-time connections are necessary since everything needed is stored as an application ‘MIDlet’ on your phone.?  Most phones manufactured in the last few years can be used, regardless of screen size.

After starting the program, select a category from the pull-down menu, then use your Right, Left, Up, and Down keys to go through the lessons. Change languages with one key-stroke at anytime.?  Screen messages are shown in English [US], and on-screen translations are shown in your selected language for each of over 450 popular words and simple phrases. These are organized into eleven categories: General, Places, Foods, Objects, Transport, Directions, Calendar, People, Numbers, Colors, and Languages.”

Me and your E61 have a superb list of software available for the E61- it’s growing all of the time and could become the main source for new E61 apps.

The Software List is famous

I like the fact that the Software List has been a great success. It gets more hits than anything else (per day), so I wanted to make it a little bit easier to locate.

For those newbies here, here is the link straight to The List, but I suggest that you also check out the great Software&Themes page which encompasses a well organized list of great links for Software and Themes, including the link to the awesomly loong Software list.

Also, if you want to search other blogs for something (yes, you can do it for freeware) use the Nokia E61 Blog Google Search? made using Google Co-op.

How to get a Bible onto your E61

I am sure some E61 users would want a Bible on their smartphone, so I have decided to write this article. There are three or more ways to get a Bible (or many translations/languages if you wish) onto your E61. This article is about all of them

The most complex is? here, I got a Finnish Bible using this and it works really well… though I had to do some ‘hacking’ (well just getting the link and adding to Bookmarks of Browser because it originally opened in Services and wasn’t as great).

But the easier methods of getting a Bible are the following: get Olivetree S60v3 Bible (E61 is supported)? or you can buy? ”Best S60 Bible” from here(that’s the name of the app) which costs?  $10.

Also you can get? English MP3 Bibles here? and play on E61.

And if they aren’t (or any music file) in MP3 or AAC, to convert you can use Nokia’s Music Manager or I like to use Switch, it’s awesome, it’s free, it’s simple.

PS: If you are having trouble installing the most complex version (and you want it) email me at jpoysti@gmail.com.no.spammm.please or post a comment

What do you want from your blog?

I read this comment posted in response to a couple of articles pointing to reviews on All About Symbian-

“Why are you qouting AAS content ? Supply a link if you feel a need, but I think it looks better when you supply your own, original content..”

When I started this blog it was done on a whim and I expected it to be read by only a handful of people- over the past few weeks it has mostly been in the top 20 of blogs on WordPress with a high point of number 5 (sadly when I took the screenshot today it dropped a little to number 26:))

My history with the web is mostly with www.palm247.com and www.windowsmobile247.com which are obviously sites dedicated to rival mobile platforms. They have been much more successful than I ever expected and with a small amount of work I can trawl up countless bits of interesting news for owners of these devices.

With a blog dedicated to one single device on a brand new operating system that developers seem less than willing to support at this time finding interesting news and writing original content can be either too time consuming or more likely impossible to find. I also write for PDA Essentials and Palmtop User and thus time is precious, especially with a young family and a full time job.

I will continue to point this blog to articles that are E61 related on other sites as I feel that certain people like Steve and Ewan deserve as many hits as they can get. If you take a moment to think about the Symbian web presence these two guys are right at the top of the tree and do an awful lot to help out thousands of users.

The other reason is because there is not much software being released currently and sites like e61life, E-Series and Techmundo are doing a superb job of finding original content for E61 owners and useful tips that I simply don’t have the time to root out.

If there is something specific you would like to see on this blog please post a ‘constructive’ comment and I will do my best to include it or if you have some original content or reviews you would like to submit just drop me a line at .

Finally and nothing to do with all of the above- my E61 battery is now draining after only one day- no Bluetooth on, no constant GPRS connection and brightness at three quarters. Any ideas?:)

PicoBlogger

Ewan Spence has written up a review of PicoBlogger which now works on S60 3rd Edition- “I??™ve looked at PicoBlogger previously, and in the last year the service has carried on growing. One thing I pointed out then was that PicoBlogger was a one way tool (upload only). Well, all that has now changed.

What raises my eyebrow on returning to PicoBlogger is that it is more than just an uploading tool, it??™s an entire, holistic blogging service (dare I say it is very Web 2.0 ish?). They have the photo uploader, the web site, and they provide you with your own photoblog. In version 3, you have the choice to send not only to your PicoBlog (which is set up when you register your details, although the application is free), but you can also post to Blogger, MSN Spaces, Wordpress, Movable Type, Typepad or Live Journal sites. If your blog host isn??™t there, they do ask you to get in touch so they can add it in the next build. Well it is a bit cheeky, but I??™d love to see an open Web2.0 approach and a version of PicoBlogger that works with rival Flickr…”
